Manhattan Show Madness

Hello friends!

Life has been crazy lately, and we apologize for the lack of posting. We spent the last few weeks prepping for the Manhattan Vintage Show. Market Publique kindly asked us to sell at their booth and we have been digging through our closets searching for the best of the best to wow the New York crowd with.

Today was the first day and we spent most of our time oohing and ahhing at all the goodies (as well as picking up a few fantastic items that you will be seeing soon!) and socializing with the other sellers. We'll be sure to post pictures as soon as we get back. :)

In the meantime, d'aMa (aka Amanda Antunes) is covering the shop for us and overseeing the sweater sale (25% off)! Stop by and keep her company while we're gone....and nab a cozy sale sweater? It's cold(!), and where else can you get 100% wool for $20?

If you happen to be in NYC this weekend, let us know! We have a few coupons, courtesy of the Market Publique crew that will get you into the fantastic (FANTASTIC) show at a discounted price. We are more than happy to share.

See you all back in Boston next week!

Upstairs Haiti Fundraiser

Wrapped in vintage and ready to go, we're heading over to Upstairs on the Square (again!) for a 3 course prix fixe lunch(12-3pm) - one of the three delicious parts of their day long fundraiser for Haiti. The staff gave up their annual holiday party to host this event and give what they could to help Partners in Health Stand for Haiti. Cool, right?

If you can't make it to lunch, stop by for drinks, complimentary Haitian inspired hors d'oeuvres and music after work. Knowing the Upstairs crowd, the party will continue well into the night.

$25 suggested donation for admission to evening session.

Of course, in the flurry of getting glammed up for the Gatsby Soiree, we forgot our cameras. So, a big thank you to d'aMa, Red Bird Vintage, Thais Collins & Ondi Gottesman for their invaluable photographic evidence of this fashionable event!

Jazz Age Fashions

The fashion's from what F. Scott Fitzgerald dubbed "The Jazz Age" were hot. Here are a few places we've been looking for a peak back at 1920's style.

The Art on Face and Hair of had these great images of film actress Clara Bow, as well as tips on make up trends of the time. Thin sloping eyebrows, kohl rimmed eyes and red cupid bow lips were key components in the flapper girl look.

1920's hair on flickr . They kept it short and wavy. We aren't so suave when it comes to hair dos, so we looked for some guidance on youtube and found this great how to by Iris.

We came across the fantastic Ralph and Hazel in this photostream of 1920's photos.

Getty Images had the best collection of 1920's fashion photos that we could find. We would have no problem spending hours scrolling through their vast collection of fancy folks in the golden age.
We've been getting a lot of queries on the costumes for this event. We have some real gems picked out from our deco collection that we can't wait to debut at Upstairs on Wednesday. We'll do our best to be true with our 20's incarnations, but do not feel like you must be attired with historical accuracy to attend!

Guests are encouraged, but by no means required, to dress up with 1920's pizazz for the Gatsby Gala. To us added glamour instantly means much more fun!

Lost for inspiration?
Fella's can sport button up vests and tailored jackets (in pink if feeling extra daring and Gatsby-esque!) and fedoras or bowlers make very era appropriate toppers.
Ladies can take a cue from the flowy drop waist dresses and wear loose fitting layers. Long beads, sequins, and lacey details also work a 20's vibe. Pop on a cloche hat and slip on your mary janes, your ready to go!

Hope to see you at the party!
